This one came naturally. I’d just replaced a customer's 60s glass balustrade with floor-to-ceiling oak spindles. When I arrived to install them, the old rippled glass and handrail were in the skip. I asked if I could take the glass—they were happy to give it away.
Wanting to waste as little as possible, I designed the lamp around the size of the glass and leftover oak spindles, aiming for a balanced, rectangular form. Once assembled and lit, the effect was stunning—I knew it needed to look just as good by day as it did illuminated at night.
To keep the light source hidden and refined, I built my own: a spiraled LED strip inside a clear acrylic tube, fitting the column perfectly without bulky fittings. It’s not just a lamp—it’s a sculpture that comes alive after dark.
I discreetly ran the power cable through a knot in one leg and added a remote switch for seamless use.
